Home TheaterThere are a couple different types of home theater systems available today. The most popular being a 5.1 theater system. This is also the industry standard surround format for HDTV. A 5.1 home theater system consists of 3 front speakers, 2 rear speakers and 1 subwoofer. Your front three speakers are usually placed to the left and right of your TV and one above or below the TV (usually centered on the TV). The rear speakers are usually placed in the back of the room, pointing toward the front of the room, almost directly in line with the front left and right speaker. Since bass is non-directional, the subwoofer can go anywhere in the room. It is best to not enclose the subwoofer in a cabinet if possible. The second type of home theater system is called a 7.1 theater system. It is basically a 5.1 system with 2 additional speakers added. They are usually placed on the side walls, directly to the left and right of the seating area. What’s great about today’s technology is that you can build your home theater system so it matches the décor of your room. No longer do you have to put big black boxy looking speakers on your floor to build a great sounding theater. Most of the manufacturers now build speakers that come in a multitude of shapes, sizes and finishes. From the elegant look of an electrostatic speaker made by Martin Logan, to the almost invisible speakers made by Bose. There are even home theater systems built with just one speaker and a subwoofer! Yes, one speaker that does the job of five. So take a few minutes, stop by our design studio and let one of the FREEKS show you why we are called the “FREEKS of home entertainment”.
